LIFE CYNOISE
Preparation of the Cyprus Environment Service for the Implementation of the EU noise directive
LIFE – CYNOISE started in 2002 and was completed in July 2005. The project was the 1st step towards designing and implementing a standard procedure for the management of environmental noise for the Republic of Cyprus. Atlantis Consulting Cyprus Ltd participated in a consortium consisting of 4 partners, with the Environmental Service of the Ministry of Agriculture as the Beneficiary. Based on the EU Environmental Noise Directive, the consequences of noise levels on the population of two cities, Nicosia and Limassol, along with the area around the Larnaca airport were studied. Noise sources under study were traffic, industry and the airport.
The study included among others:
- Preparation of Road and Air Traffic Noise Maps through measurements and noise modelling;
- Elaboration of dose response relationships regarding noise nuisance;
- Assessment of the level of annoyance caused by road, air traffic and industrial noise through questionnaires;
Design of a GIS based monitoring and decision support tool for the preparation of noise management plans.
