The EDAFOS Platform was developed to facilitate the monitoring, mapping and management of desertification and land degradation risk. Its scenario development and assessment functionality enable the design of risk mitigation measures, while robust visualisation and analytical tools facilitate detailed analysis, visualisation and communication of the results.
The project was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and was successfully completed and presented at the annual ESA PECs review event in Nicosia, on July 23rd, 2024. ESA representatives later visited ATLANTIS to mark this significant milestone and discuss the way forward.
Among others, the EDAFOS Platform will support National Competent Authorities in Cyprus and other countries in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions in the implementation of the desertification directive and the development of desertification and land degradation management and mitigation plans.
