Flora Management and Landscaping Plan – M.M Makronisos Marina, Agia Napa

The project is located in Ayia Thekla area, Ayia Napa, Cyprus. It is a mostly rocky shore which offers wintering grounds for important waders and other bird species, thus it was designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA) following EU Directives and the deriving National Legislation. It contains a narrow strip of natural habitats, which host several important plant species, including 4 species endangered with extinction and included in the Red Data Book of the flora of Cyprus. The Project shall include marine works, infrastructure and land development. The land development shall comprise of, inter alia, residential, retail, commercial, entertainment, event center, dry dock and government offices. The infrastructure shall comprise of, inter alia, parking decks, external works, roads, public restrooms, security and safety services, workshops and landscaping. The marine works shall comprise of, inter alia, defense breakwaters, fixed and mobile pontoon systems, essential buildings and a dry stack boat storage facility. ATLANTIS Consulting Cyprus Ltd implemented the Flora Management Plan of the project as a standalone scientific report. The following where implemented:

  • Consultations with relevant authorities
  • Habitat mapping – on site flora and habitat assessment
  • Establishment of a seed collection method and protocols
  • Seed collection for all four (4) endangered and under protection by law species
  • Seeds preservation in different locations (seed bank, dark and dry room, deep freeze -20oC)

  • Landscaping management plan of M.M Makronisos Marina Ayia Napa
  • Submission of the plan for final approval to all relevant authorities
